Red clover, also called trifolium pratense, is found all over Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States. It's name is a bit misleading, as the flowers are actually purple, not red. This common yet very useful plant is used by herbalists to treat certain types of inflammation, infection, digestive difficulty, kidney disorders, skin issues and consipation. It is even thought to have some benefit for the cardiovascular system.
Red clover contains genistein, an isoflavone also found in soy. Isoflavones are members of the phytoestrogen family. Phytoestrogens may be useful for many different purposes, including heart health and menopausal support. The main benefit of this herb is to be found in the flower tops, although even the leaves may have some nutritional value. There are various traces of vitamins and minerals that are found in red clover. Each Nature's Sunshine red clover capsule contains 320 mg of red clover taken from the flower tops.
